Digital Media Syllabus

Instructor: Ms. Jeanine E. Nalepa Location: Room 16 – Casa Verde
Email: jnalepa@cguhs.org
Instruction and Teaching Techniques:
Most everything you learn in class my classes will be gained by hands on experiences. You will be asked to actively participate in and out of class and in the learning process. If you leave this class thinking, “Ms. Nalepa’s class is where I learned the most and where I had the most fun!” Then we have both done our jobs.

Grounding Principals:
· 100% Participation
· Respect ALL Ideas and People
· See “Glass Half Full”
· Conversational Courtesy
· Play “FULL ON”

Supplies Needed:
You will need a 3-ring school binder for this class. Please bring something to write with. A Flash Drive is a nice item to transport files with (not required.)

Attendance and Tardy Policy:
Please come to school and be on time. I follow the school attendance and tardy policies.

Internet/MP3/Cell Phones/Computer Use:
STUDENT AND PARENT MUST INITIAL EACH ITEM

¾ It is every student’s responsibility to respect the computers and property of Casa Grande Union High School District. We are very fortunate to have the computer labs we have for our students. Students are responsible for reporting to the teacher if anything breaks at the time it happens.

¾ Chat Rooms and Inappropriate Material are not expectable in the workplace or classroom. Use of the computers and the internet is a privilege. The inappropriate use of the internet can also pose as a safety issue. Please refer to your handbooks and the “Acceptable Use Policy” for more detail on this matter.

¾ Students must use only their own computer password.

¾ Please think before you print. Supplies (such as paper and toner) are limited. Ask yourself…. “Do I really need this print?”

¾ Use of MP3’s and Cell Phones are a privilege and on a Teacher approved only basis. I feel that MP3’s and Cell Phones have a use in the Technology Classroom but in a controlled manner. I will instruct students when it is okay to use such devices. If devices are used in a manner that interrupts learning, the device will be confiscated for the remainder of the class period or day. If abuse of this privilege continues, a discipline referral will be issued and rights of use will be terminated for the remainder of the semester/year.

¾ NO FOOD, NO DRINK, NO CANDY, NO SEEDS in the computer room, pretty please.
Grading and Makeup Work:
Grades and assignments are available to you and your parents on the web anytime via PowerSchool. I strive to input grades in a timely manner. If you EVER have a question about your grade, PLEASE come and talk to me.

I will use the school grading scale: 90% -100% = "A"; 80% -89% = "B"; 70%-79% = “C”; 69% and below = No Credit. I use a grading system that makes some assignments worth more than others.

Digital Media:
  • Participation 10%
  • Assignments/Standards 80%
  • Final 10%

Makeup Work: I will not accept late work if you did not have an excused absence. You will have the same number of days you were absent, plus one to make up missed work. No work will be accepted if the assignment has been graded and returned to the other students. Failure to make up any missed assignments or tests will result in a grade of a zero (0).

Academic Honesty Policy:
Plagiarism and cheating will not be tolerated on this campus or in this classroom. A zero for the assignment will be given to the person cheating and the person allowing the cheating to happen. Please refer to your student handbook for detailed examples.
